Description of the Invention having title "Metromechanical geometry's variator of propellers" to name Franco Scopinich deposited in Venice the 13.03.1995 with n. VE95000005 - Italian Patent 01282228 - 16.03.1998.
The Metromechanical geometry's variator of propellers
is a fit device to instantly vary and in continuum the geometry (the inclination) of the shovels of a helix in movement, modifying the relative position of two coaxial aces in movement, without some attrition is created among the regulating variator and the group of the helixes. Two gears epicicloidals, whose groups satellitaris are solidals, they allow to vary the position of two coaxial aces in movement, connected to the respective central gears, with the bewilderment of the two crowns that are blocked: the conic gears of the box of the helixes (also these locks among them, but in rotation with the box helixes) repeat this bewilderment determining the volute variation of the geometry of the shovels of helix to them connect.
For the absolute inexpensiveness, solidity and constructive simplicity, the Metromechanical geometry's variator of propellers
is proper for to replace any analogous device, replacing besides completely the changes of speed and the devices of reverse.
It can finally be employed in innumerable other devices in which is necessary to modify the relative position of aces in movement.
STATE OF TECHNOLOGY:
The variatoris of the geometry of the helixes currently employees in aviation, in the helicopters, they use of complexes systems mechanics that act on an axle in movement with inevitable attrition and notable structural brittleness. In the nautical one they cannot usefully be employed for the excessive turbulence that they would create in the water. The geometry helixes varying currently in use in the nautical one are of three types:
To manual variation: they need the direct (then not with the helixes in movement) intervention.
To automatic variation: usually with two only possible geometries that alternate him under the various conditions.
To mechanical variation: it doesn't continue (to limited positions), very expensive and complex and structurally fragile.
OPERATION:
The movement of the motor comes, through the tree M, to the pinion P1 of the first gear epicicloidal and to the solidal conic gear C1 of the box helixes. A second gear epicicloidal B, exactly identical to the first one and to it placed side by side, it directly has the connected central pinion, through the axle N, to the box helixes S. The satellites of the two gears identical epicicloidals A and B are connected solidally.
As will be specified in the technical notes, this is only one of the solutions with which can happen the connection among the motor and the regulating variator; other connections will allow to get a different relationship between the rotation of the helixes and the turns of the motor.
The crown B is, in the case in examination, fixed. The crown Acan be made to rotate in the two senses, through a grapevine without end V, to get the wanted bewilderment among the two coaxial aces M and N. Comparison to M will produce the rotation of the conic gears C2 and C3 in comparison to C1; rotation that will determine the volute variation of the geometry of the two (in the example) shovels of helix H and G, without any limitation of angling. All of this, naturally, while the helixes are in movement of rotation respect to the axle M
.In the table 2 figs. A, the section of the gear is represented epicicloidale A and, in the fig. B, the section of the box helixes, in this case with threeshovels of helix.
.In the nautical use, the device allows to improve the performances and to reduce notably the consumptions of fuel since the helixes can be positioned in the exact condition that guarantees the maximum output and the good relationship speed / turns motor.
The device, exceptionally reveals besides him effective in the manoeuvres, above all for boats of notable tonnage. With the helixes in vertical position in comparison to their axle of rotation, it realizes a condition of "null": the motor can turn without the boat stirs.
With a light inclination in before or back, without varying the regime of the motor and, above everything, without having to insert a reverse or to extinguish the motor (as it happens for the big diesel motors), will be possible to maneuver with exceptional rapidity, great precision and absolute simplicity and safety straight. These characteristics of the device will still be shown more interesting in the ships of notable tonnage in which will be avoided the consequential dangers from their considerable inactivity in the manoeuvres in the harbors.
In the boats to sail provided of motor, besides it will be possible to horizontally position the helixes so that, doesn't create brake to the navigation when is not used..
The cost of the device, finally, is completely compensated by the elimination of the device of the "reverse" whose functions are excellently developed by the Metromechanical geometry's variator of propellers
.
TECHNICAL NOTES:
For simplicity, the device is represented, in the sketches of the tables 1 and 2, in the most elementary version. As already suitable, can be different, in particular cases, the connection of the variator with the tree motor. The same variator can opportunely be composed more epicicloidal gears connected. The box helixes can have a superior number of shovels of helix and, consequently, of conic gears to them connected.
The conic gears can be replaced with analogous mechanical device that modifies the geometry of the helixes with the bewilderment of the two (or more) coaxial aces. The crowns of the epicicloidal gears can be both furniture with opposite rotatory movement.
The movement of a crown, in the case the other one is fixed, can be gotten through motor electric footstep- footstep that will gear the external part of the crown epicicloidale with a gear to "grapevine without end" that it will avoid that the water's reaction on the shovels of the helix automatically modifies the geometry of the same.
The whole can be commanded by a computer that determine the automatic rotation of the crown in the desired positions: marches before, march back, null, horizontal position of the helixes, position of maximum economy and so on.
The architecture of the device can vary in the various possible applications, without change the original idea of the present patent. The sketch of the table 2 represent a possible solution for the application of the device to a motor outboard. The choice of the materials will be made in operation of the various uses.
The device, will be finally to perfect watertight estate, and it will use of forced lubrication as of use in the boxes change.
